Dev Technology - Senior Serverless Architect (AWS)
Requirements
• People who thrive in this role bring a thoughtful, grounded approach to technical leadership. They: • Listen carefully, ask good questions, and take the time to understand problems before offering solutions • Are motivated self-learners who stay current through research, experimentation, and reflection • Bring maturity and presence to technical conversations — especially when the stakes are high • Value staying hands-on with design, code, and technical problem-solving • Find satisfaction in mentoring and growing technical talent, strengthening teams through collaboration rather than individual heroics • Enjoy partnering closely with customers and teammates, earning trust through integrity, respect, and follow-through • Are resilient in the face of ambiguity and connected to the mission and the real people who rely on the systems we build • 10+ years of professional software engineering experience • 10+ years • Production AWS serverless experience — you have built and operated systems using Lambda, DynamoDB, EventBridge, SQS, and S3 (not just prototypes or certifications) • Event-driven architecture — you have designed systems where services communicate through events/messages rather than direct API calls. You understand eventual consistency and its tradeoffs. • Event-driven architecture • Node.js — strong production experience. This is a JavaScript/Node.js platform. • Node.js • DynamoDB — hands-on experience with single-table design, streams, and global tables (not just relational databases) • DynamoDB • Infrastructure as code — experience with Serverless Framework, AWS CDK, SAM, or CloudFormation • Infrastructure as code • Federal or regulated environment experience collaborating with government clients • Federal or regulated environment • US Citizenship and the ability to obtain/maintain DHS clearance • US Citizenship • Experience with DynamoDB Streams for change data capture and event publishing • DynamoDB Streams • Experience with data lake architectures (S3 + Athena + Glue, medallion/bronze-silver-gold patterns) • data lake architectures • Experience with micro-frontend architectures (Single-SPA, Module Federation, or similar) • micro-frontend architectures • Familiarity with event sourcing and CQRS patterns at the system level • event sourcing and CQRS patterns • Experience with multi-region active-active deployments on AWS • multi-region active-active deployments • Experience with Kinesis Firehose for streaming data ingestion • Kinesis Firehose • AWS certifications (DevOps Pro, Solutions Architect Pro, or Security Specialty) • Familiarity with Software Architecture Patterns for Serverless Systems by John Gilbert or a similar event-driven serverless methodology • Experience with AWS GovCloud or FedRAMP-authorized systems • Experience mentoring teams of 3+ engineers on cloud-native platforms
Responsibilities
• Design and implement event-driven, serverless architectures on AWS using Lambda, DynamoDB, EventBridge, SQS, and Kinesis • Architect and maintain systems where services communicate exclusively through domain events — no synchronous inter-service coupling • Build and support data pipelines handling high-volume event streams (Firehose, S3, Athena, Glue) • Set architectural direction and enforce best practices across a platform of 20+ autonomous microservices • Stay hands-on with coding, code reviews, troubleshooting, and performance tuning in Node.js • Collaborate with customers and stakeholders to translate mission needs into technical solutions • Mentor engineers through design discussions, code reviews, and knowledge sharing • Contribute to CI/CD automation, infrastructure-as-code, and cloud security practices • Guide micro-frontend architecture decisions (Single-SPA, React, independently deployed UI modules)
