Requirements
• 5+ years of game audio design experience with a proven focus on narrative or storytelling. • A portfolio/demo reel that tells a story. Show us moments where your audio directly shaped a narrative experience, with context on your creative and implementation role. • Mastery of sound design and implementation in a modern game engine (Unreal Engine 5 strongly preferred). • Expertise with Wwise or FMOD to create dynamic, adaptive audio. • A track record of collaborating successfully with non-audio disciplines (Design, Narrative, Art) to achieve a unified creative goal. • Excellent communication skills, capable of inspiring others with a creative vision and clearly explaining technical needs to engineering partners. • Preferred (Nice-to-Haves): • Experience on shipped story-rich AAA or indie titles. • Experience mentoring other audio designers or providing creative feedback. • Familiarity with the technical pipelines and tools used in quest or narrative scripting (e.g., visual scripting, dialogue systems).
Responsibilities
• Own the Audio Narrative: Act as the creative lead for audio within the narrative/quest design pod. Develop a compelling vision for how sound evokes character, reveals plot, and heightens emotion throughout the player's journey. • Design "Audio Stories": Craft and implement standout, narrative-driven audio moments and systems (using Wwise and UE5). Take responsibility for the full lifecycle of these features – from concept and implementation to final polish and delivery within project timelines • Champion the Vision: Collaborate closely with narrative designers and quest designers to identify audio opportunities. Be the advocate for audio's role in the story. • Bridge Creative & Technical: Partner with tools engineers and audio programmers. Clearly communicate your creative vision and design needs to help shape and improve our audio tools and quest implementation pipelines. • Mentor Through Craft & Clarity: Provide creative direction and feedback to junior audio designers. Establish and document designs, best practices, systems, and pipelines to ensure team-wide consistency and empower others to achieve high-quality narrative audio. • Ensure Holistic Quality: Playtest rigorously, advocate for audio polish, and solve creative/technical challenges to ensure the final experience meets our high emotional bar.
Benefits
• Be a Storyteller First: This role is architected for someone who thinks in terms of character, arc, and revelation. You will have a direct line into the narrative process. • Creative Partnership: You won't work in a vacuum. You'll partner with dedicated tools engineers to build the capabilities your vision requires. • Grow the Craft: Help define what narrative audio means for our project and mentor the next generation of storytellers on our team. • Focus on Impact: We protect time for deep creative work and meaningful collaboration. • The base pay range for this position is $100,000 to $180,000 USD per year.
