Requirements
• Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree (MBA, MPH, or equivalent) preferred • Minimum 15 years of progressive experience in the pharmaceutical or biotech industry, with substantial responsibility in payer accounts, managed care, or market access • Deep understanding of formulary management, coverage policy, prior authorization processes, and the broader managed care landscape • Proven national payer relationship management across commercial health plans, PBMs, Medicare, and state Medicaid programs • Demonstrated success leading and developing field-based account teams • Exceptional relationship-building skills — ability to earn trust quickly and sustain long-term partnerships • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills with the ability to deliver compelling value narratives to sophisticated payer audiences and executive audiences • Senior-level judgment in navigating complex payer dynamics, formulary negotiations, and coverage policy development across diverse customer segments • Collaborative by nature with a track record of driving alignment across complex, cross-functional commercial organizations • Proven track record managing national payer relationships and leading field-based account teams. • Strong commercial launch experience • Up to 60% travel will be required based upon business needs • The starting base pay range for this position is $266,393.00 - $298,000.00. Compensation will be determined based on several factors including, but not limited to, skill set, years of experience, and the employee’s geographic location. • Employees in this role may be entitled to additional compensation, including bonus and equity. Responsibilities
• Lead and develop a high-performing national team of Account Directors. Set team strategy, establish performance goals, and build a culture of accountability and collaboration. Coach and develop team members to advance their payer engagement capabilities • Serve as senior relationship owner for a national portfolio of key payer stakeholders including regional health plans, PBMs, MACs, and state Medicaid agencies. Develop and execute tailored engagement strategies for each customer segment • Drive formulary placement, prior authorization criteria optimization, and coverage policy development across commercial, Medicare, and Medicaid channels. Monitor the evolving payer landscape and translate intelligence into actionable strategy • Serve as the primary conduit for customer insights from the field into the commercial organization. Collaborate with Marketing, Sales, Sales Operations, Patient Services, and Pricing & Contracting to ensure alignment across all customer-facing strategies. Serve as a subject matter expert on local payers (Medicaid and commercial), including payer needs, policy shifts, and contracting opportunities • Independently lead national payer engagement strategies, manage team performance, and make contracting recommendations within established parameters
