Requirements

• Experience: Minimum of 5 years working as a public policy strategist/advocate. • Education: Master's degree in Public Policy, Law, Business Administration, Economics, Political Science, International Relations, Communication Studies or related field (preferred). • Skills needed: Strategic planning and execution skills; ability to analyze proposed legislation and regulation impact on Whatnot. Experience with government engagement strategy development is a plus. Proficiency in clear communication through writing and speaking would be beneficial, as well as experience working collaboratively across different teams within an organization or industry context (e.g., Legal, Communications). • Must-haves: Strong relationship management skills; ability to build trusted relationships with key policymakers, regulators, government officials, business associations, civil society organizations and other third parties in the EU/UK marketplace environment is essential. Experience working as a liaison between Whatnot's internal teams (e.g., Legal, Communications) and external stakeholders would be advantageous. • Certifications: None stated explicitly; however, experience with e-commerce regulations or related certifications may enhance the candidate’s qualification for this role.

Responsibilities

• Create and execute Whatnot’s public policy and government engagement strategy. • Introduce live shopping to policymakers and external partners in the EU and UK. • Analyse proposed legislation and regulation for impact on Whatnot, develop appropriate response strategies. • Collaborate with cross-functional colleagues across business areas such as Legal, Communications, Product, Trust & Risk, Tax, Go-To-Market teams to understand the implications of policy changes. • Advise senior leadership on key policy and regulatory proposals providing clear recommendations and framing trade-offs. • Build and maintain trusted relationships with policymakers, regulators, government officials, business associations, civil society organizations in Europe. • Monitor and interpret EU and UK policy developments to understand impacts on Whatnot’s product, operations, and sellers. • Position Whatnot as a credible partner on topics such as e-commerce regulations, shipping customs, platform liability, consumer protection policies.
