• 8+ years of software engineering experience, including experience with backend systems. • 2-4 years of engineering management experience including coaching, mentoring, and sustaining high-performing teams • Deep technical expertise in designing, building, scaling, and maintaining high-volume, mission-critical systems, ideally in a product area with a regulatory (or similar) surface area. • Expertise in ensuring operational excellence for critical production systems, including setting and meeting SLOs, robust incident management, and navigating complex compliance landscapes. • Excellent communication and collaboration skills - you’re comfortable navigating complexity and bringing together teams across orgs. • A strong service mindset - you lead with curiosity, care deeply about people, and empower those around you. • Bonus, but a big one: experience with financial and/or other regulatory systems (like Tax!) • Our cash compensation amount for this role is targeted at $163,000/yr to $204,000/yr in Denver (plus most remote locations), and $198,000/yr to $247,000/yr for San Francisco & New York. Stock equity is additional. Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors including candidate experience and expertise and may vary from the amounts listed above. • Gusto has physical office spaces in Denver, San Francisco, and New York City. Employees who are based in those locations will be expected to work from the office on designated days approximately 2-3 days per week (or more depending on role). The same office expectations apply to all Symmetry roles, Gusto's subsidiary, whose physical office is in Scottsdale. • 2-3 days • Note: The San Francisco office expectations encompass both the San Francisco and San Jose metro areas. • When approved to work from a location other than a Gusto office, a secure, reliable, and consistent internet connection is required.
