Requirements

• We're looking for people who meet the minimum qualifications for this role. The preferred qualifications are great to have, but are not mandatory. • Proven experience in a senior engineering or engineering lead capacity, owning a production platform end-to-end and guiding a team of engineers — from architecture decisions through to delivery and ongoing operations. • Strong backend or data engineering fundamentals — comfortable across the stack: data transformation and modelling, application logic, and cloud infrastructure. You can go deep where needed and zoom out to the platform view when required. • Track record of working closely with non-engineering stakeholders — compliance, legal, operations, finance — to translate complex and often ambiguous domain requirements into accurate, maintainable technical implementations. You do not treat unclear requirements as a blocker; you work through them. • Appreciation for the full lifecycle of a data product — not just building the pipeline that generates output, but owning what happens before and after: requirement changes, resubmissions, historical traceability, and the audit trail that makes the platform defensible under scrutiny. • Engineering rigour: you care about data correctness, auditability, meaningful test coverage, and system reliability. You know the difference between code that passes CI and code that is actually correct. • Strong product sensibility — you see beyond the ticket to the real user need, and you are dissatisfied with solutions that are technically complete but operationally painful or brittle in practice. • Clear, precise communicator. You can articulate a technical trade-off to a non-technical stakeholder and a domain requirement to an engineer, without losing precision in either direction. • A genuine intolerance for avoidable inefficiency — manual, repetitive, or error-prone workflows are a problem for you to solve, not accept. • Background in fintech, payments, banking, or financial services — particularly in environments where financial data accuracy, auditability, and operational compliance are non-negotiable rather than aspirational. • Familiarity with multi-jurisdiction regulatory or compliance reporting contexts — or a demonstrated ability to get up to speed quickly and accurately in new regulatory environments with limited hand-holding. • Hands-on experience applying LLM and agentic tooling to solve real operational problems in production — not just building proofs of concept. You think critically about where AI genuinely adds value and where it adds noise, and you know how to evaluate the difference rigorously. • Experience with cloud-native workflow orchestration, scalable data pipelines, and building robust multi-environment deployment infrastructure — the kind that is still running reliably in production two years later. • Understanding of how money moves through a global payments or banking platform — transactions, FX, settlements, fund flows, and the data trails they leave. This context makes you faster and more accurate in this domain. • Experience designing platforms for horizontal scale: consistent enough to enforce standards across many regions, flexible enough to onboard a new jurisdiction without a full rewrite. • At Airwallex, we are building the financial infrastructure that powers global businesses. The work this team does makes that possible — compliantly, accurately, and at scale. If you are motivated by problems that are technically demanding, operationally high-stakes, and genuinely global in scope, we would like to meet you. • Applicant Safety Policy: Fraud and Third-Party Recruiters • To protect you from recruitment scams, please be aware that Airwallex will not ask for bank details, sensitive ID numbers (i.e. passport), or any form of payment during the application or interview process. All official communication will come from an @airwallex.com email address. Please apply only through careers.airwallex.com or our official LinkedIn page. • Airwallex does not accept unsolicited resumes from search firms/recruiters. Airwallex will not pay any fees to search firms/recruiters if a candidate is submitted by a search firm/recruiter unless an agreement has been entered into with respect to specific open position(s). Search firms/recruiters submitting resumes to Airwallex on an unsolicited basis shall be deemed to accept this condition, regardless of any other provision to the contrary. • Equal opportunity • Equal opportunity

Responsibilities

• As an Engineering Lead in Regulatory Reporting Automation, you will: • Own the full lifecycle of regulatory reporting as a platform — Lead the design, build, and continuous improvement of the system that manages regulatory reporting end-to-end: from data extraction and jurisdiction-specific transformation, through form generation, validation, and submission, to post-submission tracking, resubmission handling, and change management when requirements evolve. Every step of this lifecycle is owned by the platform — not managed manually outside it. • Own the full lifecycle of regulatory reporting as a platform • Architect the full pipeline — Own the platform end-to-end: data transformation and modelling, application logic for form generation and validation, cloud-based workflow orchestration, storage and audit infrastructure, and the CI/CD practices that meet the reliability bar expected of regulatory-grade software. • Architect the full pipeline • Drive multi-region expansion — Partner with Regulatory Compliance and Legal to interpret new regulatory requirements as Airwallex enters new markets, and translate them into accurate, maintainable engineering solutions — building the platform so each new jurisdiction is an extension, not a rewrite. • Drive multi-region expansion • Make auditability a first-class platform requirement — Design the platform so that every regulatory filing is fully traceable — from the submitted number back to its source data, the business rules applied, and the version of the pipeline that produced it. Regulators and internal stakeholders must be able to ask "how did we arrive at this figure?" and get a clear, verifiable answer at any point in time. Auditability is not an afterthought; it is a core platform capability built in from day one. • Make auditability a first-class platform requirement • Set the engineering quality standard — Establish and uphold the practices that make the platform trustworthy: data accuracy over speed, high test coverage with meaningful assertions, clear ownership, and release discipline that reflects the legal weight of a regulatory filing. Efficiency and rigour are not trade-offs here — the platform must be both. • Set the engineering quality standard • Partner across functions — Work closely with Regulatory Compliance, Finance Operations, Legal, Product, and Data Engineering teams to ensure the platform reflects real-world regulatory intent — not just technical approximations of it. You are comfortable in rooms with compliance officers, data engineers, and finance leads, and you translate effectively in both directions. • Partner across functions • Build and grow the team — Hire, mentor, and develop engineers. Create an environment where the team produces their best work on problems that are technically challenging, operationally high-stakes, and genuinely global in scope. • Build and grow the team
