Requirements
• You have deep, hands-on, expert knowledge of MySQL or PostgreSQL, including provided tools and common software in the surrounding ecosystem. • For MySQL, you should be familiar with tools and technologies such as Percona Xtrabackup, mydumper, Point in Time Recovery, MySQL Orchestrator, HAProxy, ProxySQL, MySQL Router, InnoDB Cluster, and similar replication and high availability solutions. • For PostgreSQL, you should be familiar with tools and technologies such as pgvector, repmgr, barman, pglogical, Patroni, pgBouncer, and similar/related tools. • You have experience with containerization and Kubernetes, including deployment, administration, and troubleshooting problems encountered when using MySQL or PostgreSQL within that environment. • You have experience with database performance tuning, including server configuration, query optimization, and table and index tuning. • You have demonstrable experience administering Linux systems. • You are able to troubleshoot methodically, identifying and applying fixes for known errors, and when necessary, demonstrating a capacity to think outside of the box to resolve complex issues. • You are self-taught, self-directed, and enthusiastic about growing your skillset with new technologies as the industry evolves. • You are available to travel internationally for occasional team meetings, conferences, or customer visits. • You are fluent in communicating with customers in English, both in verbally and in writing. • What Will Make You Stand Out: • Kubernetes-related certifications and training. • Production experience using Percona’s Operators. • Software development experience, including specifically C, C++, and Go, in order to understand the internal workings of the databases, our operators, and related technologies. • Advanced Linux troubleshooting tools (gdb, perf, strace, bpftrace, tcpdump, etc). • Experience with Percona’s other core database products, including MongoDB and Valkey/Redis, and other software such as Percona Monitoring and Management and Percona Toolkit. • Experience working in SLA-bound technical support organizations. • Prior success working remotely and using screen-sharing, phone, Slack, Zoom, and similar technologies within that environment. • Experience with cloud services such as AWS and RDS, Azure, GCP. • Excellent grasp of ANSI SQL 92 to 2016 and ability to write/rewrite SQL statements involving Window functions and recursive CTEs. • Open Source community contributions. • Active desire to serve as a subject matter expert and mentoring resource within. • Percona Support on topics related to this position.
Responsibilities
• Assisting Percona Support customers’ DBA teams with high complexity problems by gathering data, investigating issues, providing detailed analysis via email/instant message/voice. • Perform screen-sharing sessions for serious and production-impacting customer issues to help navigate and resolve them quickly. • Author new blog posts on interesting topics related to databases for the open-source community. • Answer questions in Percona Support’s forum, create articles in their knowledge base. • Have deep expertise with MySQL or PostgreSQL tools like Xtrabackup/mydumper and pgvector/repmgr respectively. • Be familiar with replication and high availability solutions for both databases such as HAProxy, ProxySQL, InnoDB Cluster etc., and their surrounding ecosystems including Percona Xtrabackup tools. • Have hands-on experience in database performance tuning involving server configuration, query optimization, table/index tuning. • Demonstrated ability to administer Linux systems effectively. • Possess methodical troubleshooting skills for identifying and applying fixes for known issues with databases or related technologies like Kubernetes.
