Requirements
• Software engineering experience shipping production systems: Minimum of 3+ years. • Strong proficiency in Python and SQL with the ability to write maintainable code for production use. • Experience with big data systems including distributed compute (e.g., Hadoop, Spark) and large-scale storage solutions like Amazon S3 or Google Cloud Storage. • Solid fundamentals in data modeling, system design, debugging of distributed systems, monitoring tools such as Prometheus/Grafana, lineage tracking with Apache Atlas or similar technologies, and implementing quality checks for downstream consumers' reliance on the results (e.g., using TensorFlow Extended). • Experience working within AWS ecosystems like Databricks or utilizing other lakehouse tools such as Delta Lake to manage data pipelines effectively. • Familiarity with agentic coding workflows and AI-assisted development tools for faster iteration (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Tabnine). • Data engineering background including experience in building, orchestrating, and managing data warehousing solutions using technologies like Apache Airflow or Prefect. • Experience with LLM/VLM interfaces such as the Hugging Face Transformers library for tokenization and structured formats (e.g., TensorFlow Datasets). • Familiarity with multimodal payloads, which may involve experience working with audio, video, or other non-textual data inputs in conjunction with LLMs/VLMs. • Experience supporting customer-facing products at scale (e.g., deploying microservices on Kubernetes).
Responsibilities
• Build the systems and pipelines that enable Search, Product, and other teams to independently access and utilize reliable eval verdicts without bottlenecks. • Take ownership of the "evals-to-product" loop, autonomously determining the best way to turn raw signals into durable datasets that power decision-making across the company. • Build a robust simulator pipeline capable of replaying user interactions with the product in formats legible to LLMs and VLMs, reflecting product changes as they are shipped. • Maintain data trust by implementing monitoring, lineage, and quality checks, ensuring downstream consumers can rely on the results implicitly. • Operate in a small, high-impact team where your work directly shapes how Perplexity measures and improves Answer Quality.
