Requirements

• Skills needed: Data Engineering Manager role requires skills in managing and leading a team of engineers to design, develop, deploy, maintain, and optimize data solutions. The candidate should have strong leadership abilities, excellent communication skills, problem-solving capabilities, project management experience (preferably with Agile methodologies), knowledge of big data technologies such as Hadoop/Spark, cloud computing platforms like AWS or Azure, relational databases including SQL Server and Oracle, NoSQL solutions like MongoDB, expertise in ETL processes using tools like Pentaho Kettle, Talend Open Studio for Data Integration (ODIs) etc. • Years of experience: The ideal candidate should have at least 5 years' professional data engineering or related managerial experience with a proven track record leading teams and delivering successful projects on time and within budget. Experience in managing cross-functional teams, working across different departments (e.g., IT operations, business analytics) is highly desirable but not mandatory. • Education: A Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science/Data Management/Engineering with a strong foundation in mathematics and statistics would be preferred for this role; however, equivalent experience may also qualify an applicant if it can demonstrate the required skills and knowledge to perform effectively as Data Engineering Manager at Moonpig. • Certifications: While not explicitly stated, having certifications such as AWS Certified Solutions Architect or Azure Professional Developement Associate could be beneficial for this role but are not mandatory requirements. • Must-haves: Strong leadership skills and excellent communication abilities to effectively manage a team of engineers across different departments within the organization, along with problem-solving capabilities that can handle complex data engineering challenges in real time is essential for success in this role at Moonpig.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage a team of data engineers working on our core data platform. • Set technical direction and strategy across data infrastructure, data architecture, and data modelling, ensuring we build the right solutions in the right way. • Own and evolve our data models and data architecture, ensuring they are scalable, well-governed, and aligned with business needs. • Build and maintain scalable, resilient data pipelines and systems, including an in-house event ingestion platform. • Define best practices for analytics engineering, data modelling, and schema design to support reliable reporting and downstream use cases. • Take ownership of data code, underlying infrastructure, CI/CD pipelines, and production monitoring. • Collaborate closely with data insights and analytics teams to develop and refine ML-driven analytics pipelines. • Work with stakeholders across the business to understand data requirements and translate them into reliable, accessible data solutions. • Ensure data quality, governance, security, and GDPR compliance across the data platform. • Support and grow engineers through mentoring, clear objectives, and our engineering growth framework.
