You understand authorisation flows, settlement, chargebacks, and the nuances of working with card schemes at a technical level. • Experienced: 5+ years in backend or systems engineering, with meaningful time spent in payments or fintech. • Builder who has replaced third-party systems: You've been through the journey of evaluating, designing, and building in-house infrastructure to replace vendor solutions — and you understand the trade-offs involved. • Startup and scale-up proven: You thrive in fast-moving environments and have navigated the scaling pains of hyper-growth. You're comfortable with ambiguity and energised by the challenge of building systems that need to work across multiple markets. • Expert in distributed systems: You've built, deployed, and maintained systems with high concurrency, fault tolerance, and uptime. • A leader and mentor: You have experience managing or mentoring engineers, setting technical direction, and building team culture.
