Requirements

• Skills needed: Senior Data Scientist with experience in Product Analytics within a data science team at Laurel is required. Must have strong analytical skills and be proficient in statistical analysis software such as R, Python, SAS, SPSS or Stata. Experience using machine learning algorithms for predictive modeling preferred but not mandatory. • Years of experience: A minimum of 5 years' professional data science experience is required with a proven track record and demonstrated successes within the field of Product Analytics at Laurel specifically (or equivalent). Prior work in similar roles or industries may be considered as an advantage, however this will not guarantee employment. • Education: A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, Economics with a strong foundation in data science is required along with relevant coursework and experience (either on campus or through online learning platforms). Master's degrees are preferred but may be considered as an advantage if they align closely to the above-ment0. • Certifications: Laurel values candidates who hold certifications such as CPA, PMP, Six Sigma Green Belt and/or Project Management Professional (PMP) which demonstrate a commitment to professional development in data science or related fields may be considered an advantage but are not mandatory for employment. • Must-haves: Experience with cloud computing platforms such as AWS, Azure, Google Cloud is required along with experience using big data tools like Hadoop and Spark preferred (but optional). Familiarity with SQL databases including PostgreSQL or MySQL will be considered an advantage but not mandatory for employment.

Responsibilities

• Build Core Product Analytics • Define, standardize, and maintain key product metrics (activation, retention, churn predictors, product feature success criteria, engagement indicators). • Build canonical tables in Laurel’s Analytics Data Warehouse that become the trusted source of truth. • Own Feature Measurement & Decision Science • Partner with PMs to define success metrics, guardrails, and experiment decision frameworks before features ship. • Lead meaningful evaluation: “Did the feature actually improve user experience?” • Build Funnels, Retention & Behavior Understanding • Develop canonical end-to-end funnels: onboarding → first success → habit formation → retained power usage. • Identify leading indicators of retention and churn. • Uncover insights that drive roadmap prioritization and feature development • Ship actionable dashboards; proactively alert teams when behavior materially changes • Raise data quality & instrumentation • Add validation tests and monitoring, triage data issues quickly, and collaborate with Product/Engineering to improve data quality. • Help Operationalize the Product Analytics Function • Establish best-practice processes, templates, cadence, and expectations across Product. • Partner closely with Data Engineering/Data Infra to shape the analytics warehouse and metric layers • Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Statistics, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
