Requirements
• Qualified lawyer with a current practising certificate or equivalent qualification in Singapore, Hong Kong, or Australia. • Bachelor of Laws (LLB) or Juris Doctor (JD) required; a postgraduate qualification such as an LLM in a relevant discipline (e.g., international business law, technology law, or intellectual property) is desirable but not essential. • Minimum of 10 years of post-qualification legal experience, with a strong preference for candidates who have gained experience both in a leading international law firm and in-house at a high-growth or technology-driven company. • Demonstrated expertise as a commercial generalist, with substantial experience in drafting, structuring, and negotiating a broad range of commercial agreements, including SaaS, licensing, partnership, and vendor contracts. • A strategic problem solver with sound legal and business judgment and the ability to make practical, informed legal decisions. • Strong working knowledge of the legal and regulatory landscapes across the APACx region, including corporate governance, data privacy, employment, and intellectual property frameworks in key markets such as Singapore, Hong Kong, Australia, Japan, and Korea. • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English; proficiency in an additional language spoken in the APACx region (such as Japanese, Korean or Mandarin) is a plus. • Strong organizational and time management skills necessary to manage multiple tasks for multiple members of the organization in a rapidly changing environment. • Entrepreneurial and take active ownership of your areas of responsibility and see tasks through to completion. • Someone who faces novel questions with an open mind and is willing to work outside their comfort zone to address challenges efficiently and quickly. • Comfortable with ambiguity and risk. • A quick and flexible learner. • Experienced at communicating with senior leadership. • Keen to connect with, build, and maintain relationships with people at all levels and across geographies. • Flexible about working varying hours as needed, working at times with global teams in other time zones. • A strong manager and leader
Responsibilities
• As Head of Legal APACx, you will be responsible for legal support in the APACx region, which includes Australia, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, the Philippines, Taiwan and Singapore. As a lawyer in a scale-up, you’ll be expected to roll up your sleeves and get the task done, no matter how big or small, with an eye towards creating processes for scale. We are looking for a strong generalist to join and lead the legal team in the region – someone who is a builder at heart and who will be a critical part of expanding our global business. You will provide legal leadership on critical initiatives, combining advanced legal expertise with strategic business influence. • Support all legal needs of the APACx business, which includes commercial, corporate, litigation, employment, real estate and intellectual property issues. Structure, draft, negotiate, and approve contracts, agreements, policies, and other documents covering trade, commercial, financial, and operational matters. • Represent the organization in litigation, arbitration, mediation, or regulatory proceedings. • Find creative and pragmatic legal and regulatory solutions for our rapidly-growing, innovative business. • Manage a team of senior lawyers based in China and Korea. • Own and manage the APACx Legal P&L. • Demonstrate strong leadership within the legal department, client groups, and senior management, with clear potential for expanded responsibilities. • Proactively solve critical problems that impact current and future products, technologies, and business operations. • Influence senior leadership and stakeholders across business units and functions. • Liaise with external counsel as needed.
