Requirements
• 8+ years in software engineering, with at least 2 years in an engineering management or tech lead role at a product-driven company. • Hands-on background in backend or full-stack development — you understand tradeoffs in system design and can engage credibly in technical discussions. • Track record of growing engineers, navigating performance challenges, and building teams that consistently ship quality software under pressure. • Comfortable in a fast-moving startup environment. You balance moving fast with building systems that scale — and you know when to do which. • Exceptional written and verbal communication — from design docs to board updates, you tailor your message for every audience. • Experience in fintech, capital markets, or enterprise SaaS. Familiarity with Java, TypeScript, or modern cloud-native stacks is a plus. • Remote-friendly flexibility with a high-performance, async-first culture • Work from home set up • We may use artificial intelligence (AI) tools to support parts of the hiring process, such as reviewing applications, analyzing resumes, or assessing responses. Responsibilities
• Lead, mentor, and grow a team of 6–12 software engineers across frontend, backend, and platform — fostering a culture of craft, accountability, and psychological safety. • Own the engineering delivery pipeline: sprint planning, roadmap alignment, dependency mapping, and stakeholder communication — ensuring commitments are met without burning out the team. • Partner closely with product, design, and data teams to translate complex financial workflows into well-scoped engineering problems, and back again into polished product experiences. • Drive hiring decisions: sourcing, evaluating, and onboarding exceptional engineers who raise the bar for the entire team. • Establish and champion engineering best practices — code review standards, testing culture, incident response, on-call health, and documentation quality. • Identify and resolve bottlenecks in architecture, process, or team dynamics — escalating technical risk with clarity and proposing actionable paths forward. • Conduct regular 1:1s, performance reviews, and career development conversations that keep your engineers growing and engaged. • Represent engineering in cross-functional leadership forums — bridging the gap between what's technically possible and what the business needs to move.
