• You’ll own the career success of our fellows: where they go next, and how much Pivotal helped them get there. In 2027 that will cover about 170 fellows, plus alumni looking for their next role. • You stay in close contact with hiring managers in AI safety, AI governance and biosecurity, and build strong models of where the talent bottlenecks are (and will be in the future). Together with our Research Managers and their fellows, you develop individual career plans, connect the fellows with the right roles and people, and are honest with them about their options. You’ll also track where fellows go, so that we do better every cohort. • Knowledge of the field. Stay in close contact with hiring managers in AI safety, AI governance and biosecurity, and keep a current, written view of which roles the field most needs to fill. • Fellow career plans. Work with the Research Managers to find out what each fellow wants and needs, and follow up with individual fellows when their plans are unclear. • Placement & networking. Recommend open roles to fellows, and fellows for open roles. Connect the fellows with people they should talk to for advice or potential jobs, informed by the Research Managers' current view of each fellow. • References. Build a system so that any organisation that receives an application from a Pivotal fellow or alum can get a high-quality reference from us quickly. • Career programming. Career weeks, workshops and career memos, with Research Managers and partners such as 80,000 Hours. • Career outcomes. Track where fellows go, and report it. • Feedback into selection. Use what you learn about the field's needs to shape outreach and the make-up of each cohort. • You are well-connected in AI safety, AI governance or biosecurity, or you can build these relationships quickly. • You have worked in recruiting, careers advice, talent search or a similar role. • You have good judgement about people and about which roles suit them. • You want to find out if your process works, and you change it when it does not. • You are organised enough to run a system for about 170 fellows a year. • Fellows trust you, and you are honest with them about their options. • You care about reducing catastrophic risks from AI. You do not need a research background. • We don’t expect anyone to be strong in all of this. The process has these stages: • Written application. A short form and your CV. It takes about 30 minutes. • Automated video interview. About 10 minutes. You record short answers to a few questions, at a time that suits you. • Work task. About 2 hours, based on real work in this role. We pay you for this time. You may use AI tools, as you would in the job. Tell us which ones you used and how. • Personal interview. About 45 minutes. We discuss your work task and how you would approach the role. With your consent, we record it so that more of the team can review it. • Work trial and references. Up to three paid days working with us at our office in London.
