birdie - Senior Software Engineer (FullStack)
Responsibilities
• Own full-stack feature delivery for Rostering V2 • You'll take features from technical design through to production, shipping work that holds up under the volume and complexity of real care delivery, independently and with minimal oversight. • Partner with Product to shape what gets built • Rostering epics are complex, full of edge cases and trade-offs. You'll work closely with Product to break them down, surface what's hard, and influence what we build and in what order, not just how. The partnership is real, not procedural. • Contribute to engineering quality and architectural direction • Through code reviews, TDD practice, technical design input, and setting standards within the squad. You'll have a voice in how Rostering V2 evolves and what good looks like for the engineers who follow you. As you build domain expertise in Rostering, you'll lift the engineers around you. • Ramp on the Rostering domain quickly • Healthcare and care operations have their own logic and constraints. You don't need a background in either, but you do need to ramp fast. Most engineers are shipping real work within their first 30 days. • Carry the out-of-hours rota • You'll shadow incidents alongside experienced engineers first, so you're never on call before you're ready. By 90 days you'll be on the rota, handling incidents and bugs with confidence. The systems we run touch live care delivery, so we take reliability and incident response seriously. • 🤩 You'll thrive here if... • You bring strong full-stack TypeScript and React experience and have built and operated scalable Node.js APIs. You're confident across the full stack, from database schema to frontend component. • You write tests first. TDD is a default part of how you work, not an afterthought, and you can articulate why it matters. • You take loosely defined requirements and drive features to stable production deployment without constant oversight. You unblock yourself, flag risks early, and follow through. You work closely with Product and communicate technical trade-offs clearly to non-engineers, shaping direction rather than just implementing it. • You enjoy working in older codebases as much as building new ones. Rostering V2 isn't a clean greenfield rebuild. You'll spend real time understanding V1, deciding what to carry forward, and refactoring as you go. • Go experience is a strong plus. If you haven't used it yet, you're keen to learn it, and you have a track record of picking up new technologies quickly. • 🧠 Imposter syndrome is real, and we don't expect you to tick every box.
