Requirements
• Software Engineer with 4+ years of industry experience and strong software engineering fundamentals. • Growth-oriented, looking to increase impact, responsibility, and ownership over time. • Proven ability to own complex problems and multi-component features end-to-end, with a growing ability to collaborate and influence across teams. • Strong experience writing production code in Python and/or Golang, and working with SQL and NoSQL databases. • Experience with system design and building reliable, scalable applications with an emphasis on operational excellence. • Detail-driven, and care about code quality, testing, and performance. • Ability to make practical trade-offs — evaluating multiple approaches and selecting the one that best balances customer impact, system complexity, and long-term maintainability. • Able to write technical design documents and contribute to design and architecture reviews. • Strong understanding of service health, monitoring, fault tolerance, and incident response practices. • Strong communication skills and proven ability to work autonomously and asynchronously with remote collaborators and stakeholders. • Experience designing or building data access layers, APIs, or platforms that other engineering teams build on top of. • Experience treating an internal platform as a product — building for other engineering teams as your customers. • Familiarity with ChatGPT, Cursor, and other GenAI productivity tools. • Big Data platform usage is a plus. • AI and our hiring processAbnormal AI uses AI-assisted tools to help our recruiting team prepare for candidate interviews. Responsibilities
• Work with the Tech Lead, Engineering Manager and Product Manager to develop and deliver key features for the product • Assist in guiding and mentoring junior members of the team • Assume ownership of the reliability of the features you develop, including comprehensive unit tests and rigorous integration testing • Participate in on-call rotations and provide technical support to effectively troubleshoot and resolve customer issues • Communicate effectively with the team in an async manner. Display a strong sense of initiative and ownership in providing updates, discussing challenges and proposing solutions without prompting • Raise the bar of excellence in engineering, actively contributing to knowledge sharing within the team and participating in professional development activities
