StraitsX - Commercial Legal Counsel (3-Month Contract)
Requirements
• Qualified lawyer in a common law jurisdiction with at least 5 years of relevant legal experience, with strong experience in commercial contracts gained in-house and/or at a reputable law firm. • Strong commercial contracting experience, including independently drafting, reviewing, structuring, and negotiating complex agreements. • Strong business acumen with the ability to combine legal analysis with practical commercial judgment. • Ability to independently manage multiple transactions and priorities in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision. • Highly collaborative and solutions-oriented, with strong stakeholder management and communication skills. • Ability to translate complex legal concepts and risks into clear, practical, and commercially relevant advice. • Strong time management skills and the ability to deliver quality work under tight deadlines. • Available to start as soon as possible and commit to a minimum 3-month contract.
Responsibilities
• Lead the drafting, structuring, reviewing, negotiation, and execution of complex commercial and partnership agreements, particularly within the payments, fintech, and Web3 ecosystem. • Handle agreements with a range of counterparties, including banks, payment service providers, exchanges, wallets, custodians, fintech companies, and other digital asset/Web3 partners. • Take end-to-end ownership of commercial transactions and contract negotiations with minimal supervision. • Partner closely with Commercial, Product, Compliance, Regulatory, Finance, and Operations teams to understand business requirements, identify potential risks, and ensure relevant legal and compliance considerations are appropriately reflected in agreements. • Provide timely and practical advice to internal stakeholders regarding contractual obligations, commitments, and commercial legal matters. • Advise management and business stakeholders on complex client and partnership matters, including potential contractual, regulatory, compliance, financial, and legal risks. • Communicate complex legal considerations clearly and concisely, adapting your approach to different stakeholders and audiences. • Support the development and improvement of contracting processes, templates, playbooks, and procedures to increase operational efficiency.
