Requirements

• 0-2 years of experience in software development • Comfort (or genuine eagerness to get comfortable) working across the stack, including the frontend • Proficiency in at least one language (Go and TypeScript preferred but not essential) • Strong problem-solving skills and sound engineering judgement, even on small problems • Curiosity about how systems fit together and how the business actually makes money • Interest in using AI tools well • Growth mindset: eager to learn, iterate, take feedback, and take on more responsibility • We care more about your judgement, curiosity, and ability to ship than about how many years you've been coding. More than half our engineers come from non-technical or non-conventional backgrounds, including plenty of career switchers, and we don't require a computer science degree (or any degree). We're not indexing on your ability to architect complex systems just yet; that comes with time and mentorship. What's central to the ones who succeed at Pave is the desire to grow, deep curiosity about how things work (both the engineering and the business), communication (written and verbal), and real ownership of delivery outcomes. If your interests lean towards pure backend engineering at a senior level, we're also hiring senior backend engineers, so please reach out if that's you. • QUESTIONS THAT SHOULD EXCITE YOU • How do we move money reliably and safely at scale, and what happens when an edge case slips through? • What separates an API that platforms love to build on from one they tolerate? • Why does this work in staging but break in production, and how do I make sure it never happens again? • Where do AI tools genuinely make me faster, and where do they quietly slow me down? • This domain is mine to deliver. What does "done well" actually mean for the business?

Responsibilities

• Rotate across functional units (Banking & Payments, Trading, Investment Products, Internal Products), shipping full-stack changes and learning how each domain fits into the wider platform • Pick up well-scoped features and bugs, take them from ticket to production, and learn our codebase, tooling, and review culture • Work closely with senior engineers across teams to understand the systems you're touching and the trade-offs behind them • Use AI tools as part of your everyday workflow, and help us figure out where they genuinely improve engineering velocity and quality • Own small, well-defined domains end-to-end: designing, building, shipping, and maintaining them • Take responsibility for delivery outcomes, not just code, in the product line where you can drive the most value • Participate in code reviews, technical design discussions, and RFCs, and start contributing your own • Improve the systems and internal tooling around you, raising the bar for everyone who works in the same code • WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE • At 6 months: you've established yourself in a product line, own one or more small domains within it, and can be trusted to take a problem and deliver an outcome. • Within a year: you've grown into a mid-level engineer, owning larger pieces of work, making sound technical decisions on your own, and driving measurable impact on your team's roadmap.
