Requirements
• Fluent in Spanish (including speaking, reading, and writing) and able to deliver trainings in Spanish • Demonstrated experience teaching foundational skills (phonological/phonemic awareness, phonics and fluency) with Science of Reading aligned, high quality instructional materials • 3+ years experience leading sustained coaching engagements and professional development for educators in K-5 • 7+ years of K-5 classroom literacy teaching experience, leading to demonstrable results for students • Experience in a dual language or bilingual educational setting working directly in both English and Spanish • Experience working on collaborative projects with leaders and teachers • Experience analyzing data and using it to inform practice • Proven efficacy in time management while managing multiple engagements and competing priorities • Strong oral and written communication skills • Demonstrated proficiency in the use of technology-based productivity tools including Microsoft and Google Applications • Able to commute using public transportation or a personal vehicle (approximately 5 days per week) to schools in New York City to support educators onsite in NYC area schools • Experience using or supporting Amplify Caminos • Ability to support teachers in a remote learning environment, if needed • Able to navigate instruction with different Learning Management Systems (Schoology, Clever, Google Classroom, etc.) • Knowledge of Amplify CKLA, mCLASS and/or Boost/Boost Lectura a plus • Master’s or advanced degree in education
Responsibilities
• The Instructional Coach will support educators on-site up to four days a week with the fifth day dedicated to planning and preparing to meet the needs of educators. This position will follow NYCPS’s district calendar. Most weeks will be 40 hour work weeks, though the Instructional Coach will support the Amplify PD team on department-wide initiatives on days that NYCPS teachers have off (holidays, winter break, summer break, school cancellations, etc.). Support will vary, but may include designing and/or delivering PD throughout the summer and during breaks to NYCPS and other districts. • In this role, you will collaborate with district/school leadership and the Amplify Associate Director of Professional Development assigned to NYCPS to determine the strategy, focus, and coaching approach for different times of the year. You will also partner with regional/school leadership to adjust course, as needed, with an eye toward improving student outcomes. An outcomes-centered orientation and the ability to pivot on short notice are necessary for this role. • Lead professional learning around Amplify Caminos and mCLASS Lectura. • Work with groups of educators in schools and districts to enhance implementation, set goals, and plan literacy instruction, based on assessment and implementation data • Facilitate trainings for groups of up to 150 teachers and/or leaders • Support school leaders in interpreting implementation health, identified areas of need, and planning for school and classroom supports accordingly • Observe teacher practice and provide feedback to individual teachers • Collaborate with the Amplify team working in the district • Communicate thoughtfully and proactively with school and district contacts • Consult with and provide school and district contacts with recommendations on how to best support educators using Amplify’s Spanish literacy products • Design and communicate strategic supports to educators at key times of the year • Support NYCPS parent and community communication regarding the implementation • Participate in Amplify coaching meetings and internal trainings • Support Amplify’s internal team with the design of standard and custom PD projects that include, but are not limited to: google slide decks, videos, online courses, and participant resources • Delivery of remote or in-person training for national customers • All of the above may occur in English or Spanish, depending on customer needs • In addition to these specific areas of focus in coaching, the instructional coach will also: • Build knowledge about other Amplify early literacy programs (CKLA, Boost/Boost Lectura) in order to support a cohesive educator experience across products • Proactively seek out feedback and adapt practice based upon what is leading to improved student outcomes • Create or customize professional development experiences, as needed • Facilitate district-wide professional development sessions (in person and remote), as needed, for leaders and teachers
