deliveroo - Senior Commercial Counsel, Procurement
Requirements
• Legal Qualification & Depth: Qualified solicitor in England & Wales with significant experience providing commercial, strategic legal advice to international businesses. • Domain Expertise: Proven track record across core commercial and procurement areas, including technology procurement, AI vendor agreements, payment service provider contracts, and material outsourcings. • Cross-Functional Stakeholder Engagement: Proven ability to build trusted relationships, influence senior leaders, and collaborate effectively within a fast-paced, matrixed global organisation. • Clear, Adaptable Communication: Skilled at distilling complex legal risks for varied audiences—from executive teams to junior team members—and adapting your communication style accordingly. • Pragmatic & Creative Problem Solving: High commercial acumen and a growth mindset, with the drive to find creative, business-first solutions in ambiguous or novel areas of law. • Regulatory Knowledge: Familiarity with evolving regulatory frameworks, such as payment services regulations or AI compliance regimes. • In-House Tech Experience: Previous in-house legal experience within a high-growth technology business or an internationally managed/US-owned corporate environment.
Responsibilities
• You’ll be joining the Technology and Procurement team within Commercial Legal. As part of DoorDash’s international legal function, we support our international business across Deliveroo and Wolt markets. • The Vendor/Tech team advises on critical matters that keep the business moving forward and are integral to facilitating market-leading initiatives. Whether it’s negotiating a deal to bring innovative technology into the business to support our cutting edge engineering team, managing the roll-out of highly-integrated SaaS platforms across multiple interfaces in many jurisdictions, or supporting the business with BAU contracts, we work closely with our business counterparts to make things happen. • As a Senior Counsel, you will consistently provide high-quality, risk-based legal advice across a range of commercial areas. You will build relationships of trust with stakeholders across the business, acting as a true partner to unlock opportunities and manage risk. • Advise on complex commercial transactions: Structure and negotiate a wide range of agreements, from off-the-shelf SaaS contracts to large-scale, multi-jurisdictional business unit outsourcings. You’re comfortable with the uncomfortable - whether that’s taking English law principles you know and collaborating with our external experts to work out the French law equivalent, or working in an entirely new area of law. • Partner cross-functionally: Deliver pragmatic, business-focused legal advice to key stakeholders across Tech, Marketing, People, Finance, and Supply Chain on strategic projects and procurement needs. • Lead legal strategy in working groups: Represent Legal on steering committees to navigate emerging challenges, regulatory changes, and new technology rollouts, owning legal risks from inception to solution. • Synthesise risk for executive leadership: Prepare Executive and Signatory notes that clearly translate complex legal risks into actionable business insights. • Upskill and guide the business: Provide proactive training and advice across evolving topics, including AI risk management, vendor compliance, and financial regulations. We’ll upskill you on technical topics you’re less familiar with, and you’ll quickly find your areas of expertise. • Drive operational excellence: Advocate for legal best practice and continuously improve internal contracting processes to scale efficiency.
