Requirements
• You have a Bachelor's or Master's in biology, biochemistry, biotech, or a related field • You're Discord-native - you've spent real time in communities, understand the culture, and ideally have moderated a server before • You're probably already active in online science communities (Twitter/X, Reddit, Discord, etc.) and genuinely enjoy connecting with people • You have strong writing skills - warm, accessible, and human (not corporate) • You're comfortable hopping on voice chats and hosting live events • You take initiative and aren't afraid to try things that might not work • You're organized enough to keep multiple channels, events, and initiatives running smoothly • Experience with Discord bots (MEE6, Carl-bot, or custom) • Familiarity with the biotech/life sciences landscape - who the players are, what people care about • Experience organizing in-person or virtual events
Responsibilities
• Build and manage our Discord communities by creating channels, setting up bots, designing onboarding flows, keeping conversations active. • Host community events such as AMAs, journal clubs, voice chats, Twitter/X Spaces to foster engagement. • Create programming that keeps members engaged with highlighting member research, running workshops, or sparking discussions around hot topics in biotech and life sciences. • Connect people by identifying emerging voices within the community, facilitating introductions, and helping members find collaborators for their projects. • Moderate discussions to maintain a welcoming, inclusive environment that encourages open dialogue among community members. • Track community health metrics and experiment with new formats or features on Discord to drive engagement within the communities managed by this role.
