Requirements
• At least 7+ years of experience with exceptional academic and law firm credentials; in-house experience considered a plus. • A member in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario. • Substantive data protection and data privacy experience and an in-depth knowledge of Canadian, U.S. and EU privacy statutes – including GDPR, PIPEDA, and the Privacy Act. • Experience providing regulatory and policy advice in the areas of data protection, privacy law and other areas of information law.
Responsibilities
• Advise clients on privacy and data protection matters, including data collection, use, disclosure, retention, governance, and privacy compliance. • Counsel on applicable Canadian privacy and data protection requirements, including PIPEDA, provincial privacy legislation, and other evolving regulatory requirements. • Draft, review, and negotiate privacy and data-related agreements and provisions, including data processing, data sharing, security, and cross-border data transfer terms. • Advise on privacy and cybersecurity incidents, including breach response, incident management, regulatory notification requirements, and remediation. • Support privacy and cybersecurity programs, including privacy impact assessments, policies and procedures, data governance, risk assessments, and compliance initiatives. • Partner with legal, privacy, security, IT, product, compliance, and business teams on privacy and cybersecurity risks.
