Roofstock - Assistant Controller
Requirements
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA required. • 10+ years of accounting and financial management experience, including 5+ years in a supervisory/leadership role. • Experience in Big 4 or large regional public accounting firms. • Deep expertise in GAAP and technical accounting (especially ASC 718, 842, 350-40, 805). • Proven proficiency in accounting ERP systems (NetSuite or equivalent) and advanced Excel modeling. • Demonstrated commitment to modernizing accounting operations; experience (or strong aptitude) for implementing automation tools or AI agents to streamline workflows. • Strong executive presence with the ability to communicate complex data clearly, paired with a "player-manager" approach to mentoring and hands-on operational support. • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and manage competing priorities with precision. • Location • This position must be located in the Bay Area (Hybrid) or remotely from Dallas, TX. • This is a 2 day hybrid role in the Bay Area office, effective October 2026.
Responsibilities
• Month end close: Lead the month-end close process to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting. This involves overseeing the entire cycle from pre-close preparation and journal entry management to balance sheet reconciliations and flux analysis. • Month end close: • AI Implementation: You will champion our AI-first approach by integrating AI agents to streamline and automate journal entries, reconciliations, and variance reporting, ensuring that month-end is not just a deadline, but an efficient, insight-driven process. • AI Implementation: • Technical Accounting: Manage complex technical accounting areas, including stock-based compensation (ASC 718), lease accounting (ASC 842), capitalized software costs (ASC 350-40), and M&A purchase accounting (ASC 805) • Technical Accounting: • Consolidation: Lead the monthly financial consolidation process for a complex structure of multiple legal entities, ensuring accurate intercompany eliminations and strict compliance with GAAP standards. • Consolidation: • Financial Reporting: Drive the velocity and precision of monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting cycles. Produce our monthly financials including the cash flow statement. Transform variance analysis into proactive insights that guide executive decision-making. • Financial Reporting: • ERP Strategy: Design and implement an ERP strategy to optimize our financial platforms. • ERP Strategy: • Audit: Lead the annual financial statement audit, acting as the primary liaison for external auditors. Oversee the preparation and review of complex financial statement footnotes to ensure full GAAP compliance. Proactively manage the audit lifecycle, including detailed schedules and the coordination of PBC (Prepared by Client) lists, to drive a seamless, timely, and efficient audit process. • Audit: • Internal Controls: Design and deploy robust internal control frameworks that scale with organizational growth, and champion a culture of compliance by authoring and enforcing sophisticated accounting policies. • Internal Controls: • Procurement & Accounts Payable: Oversee end-to-end procurement, accounts payable and T&E processes. Implement AI Agents within our procurement tools to improve efficiency and maintain strict financial controls. • Procurement & Accounts Payable: • Treasury & Cash Management: Lead treasury operations, including corporate bank account administration, cash positioning, and debt facility management. Develop AI-enabled cash forecasting models to optimize liquidity and provide proactive insights on cash flow trends. Maintain strict internal controls over wire and ACH disbursements, ensuring accurate monthly cash flow reporting and covenant compliance. • Treasury & Cash Management: • Team Leadership: Lead and mentor a team of five accountants, fostering a culture of high performance, continuous improvement, and professional development. Benefits

Ultimately, in determining your pay it will be based on several factors including location, job-related knowledge, skills, experience and other job related factors.
