Requirements
• Master's degree or higher in a related field with a certification in school counseling, or any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities • 3+ years in an academic counseling role at the middle school or high school level • Professional experience supporting students in secondary education within the last 5 years • Strong written and verbal communication skills • Ability to work independently in a remote setting • Excellent organizational and multitasking skills • Tech-savvy with an ability to learn new platforms quickly, such as gradebooks, Google Classroom, curriculum platforms, and Google Workspace • Proficiency in (or willingness to learn) responsible use of AI tools to increase efficiency in the education sector • All MOAO staff are considered mandated reporters and are required to respond to student safety and mental health concerns in accordance with the MOAO Crisis Response protocols. This includes participating in required training and, when appropriate, administering the Columbia Suicide Severity Rating Scale (C-SSRS) and following all documentation and escalation procedures. • Experience with classroom and/or online teaching • Experience or certification in mental health counseling for schools • Experienced in other areas of education, such as content creation, assessment design, or assessment administration • Ability/willingness to attend some in-person field trips and activities in Ohio

The school aims to serve 250 students year one, with plans to grow to over 1,000 students by 2030. 🚀 • We’re seeking a passionate and resourceful Middle/High School Academic Counselor to join our team with a start date of July 6, 2026. This is a fully remote counseling role that emphasizes student support, graduation and post-secondary planning, and intervention for struggling students. The academic counselor will serve an integral role in monitoring students’ academic progress and developing individualized plans to support students as they work toward their educational goals. They will also play an integral role in student crisis management and reporting, as well as working toward Cognia and NCAA accreditation for the school. • The expected starting pay range is $27.27 - $30.00 per hour. Counselors at MiaPrep Online Academy of Ohio work an average of 40 hours per week. When working year round, this can equate to an annual pay range of $56,000 - $62,000. • Note: Hours worked over 40 hours will be paid at a rate of 1.5 times the regular hourly rate. • Miaplaza's compensation philosophy ensures equity and competitiveness while considering the regional differences in labor costs. Specific rates will be provided during the hiring process and are aligned with market data and internal equity. • Compensation is evaluated twice per year, based on performance. • Full-time employees are eligible for health, dental, and vision insurance, inclusive of specialty care options like fertility benefits, mental health services, and chiropractic care, FSA, HSA, and more. • All employees are eligible for a 401(k) retirement plan with employer match. • PTO is all-purpose time off, and combines traditional vacation and paid sick leave plans into one flexible, inclusive policy. Full-time Employees receive 16 hours of floating holiday PTO per quarter and accumulate additional PTO at the rate of 1 hour per every 15 hours worked.
