Requirements
• 7+ years of software engineering experience • 3+ years managing engineering teams in fintech or high-scale distributed systems • Strong experience with payments, banking infrastructure, acquiring, remittance, wallets, or financial platforms • Proven track record leading teams operating mission-critical systems • Strong understanding of distributed systems, APIs, integrations, and transactional architectures • Experience building systems with high availability and reliability requirements • Ability to design systems that handle failure, retries, and eventual consistency • Familiarity with regulated environments and financial compliance requirements • Strong engineering management fundamentals: delivery, team development, hiring, and performance management • Ability to work effectively with cross-functional stakeholders • Strong communication and leadership skills • Experience with merchant acquiring or payment orchestration • Experience integrating with Core Banking systems • Background in reconciliation, ledgering, or financial operations platforms • Experience scaling fintech infrastructure in fast-growing environments • Familiarity with PCI-DSS, AML/KYC, or financial audit requirements • What Success Looks Like • Payment systems remain reliable under failure and external dependency issues • Systems handling money movement are correct, observable, and auditable • Financial discrepancies are minimized and detected early through strong engineering controls • Systems degrade gracefully instead of failing silently • Engineering teams deliver predictably with strong ownership • Architecture evolves consistently across payment domains • The organization can scale new payment products without compromising stability or compliance
Responsibilities
• Lead and grow multiple engineering teams within the Payments domain • Own engineering delivery across payments infrastructure and platform capabilities • Own reliability and uptime of systems responsible for money movement • Be accountable for financial correctness at the systems level (e.g. consistency, reconciliation, failure handling) • Drive architectural consistency and long-term evolution of payment systems • Establish engineering standards for scalability, observability, testing, and resilience • Improve operational maturity, incident management, and production excellence • Partner closely with Banking, Compliance, Risk, and Finance teams on regulatory and operational requirements • Collaborate with Product on prioritization and execution, while maintaining clear engineering ownership • Build a strong engineering culture with high ownership and accountability • Mentor engineering leads and senior engineers • Drive hiring and scaling of the organization as the payments business grows • Balance speed of execution with system reliability, correctness, and compliance constraints • Teams You'll Work With: • Financial control systems focused on: • End-to-end reconciliation across card and non-card payments • Detection of discrepancies and inconsistencies • Auditability and operational transparency • As Salmon continues to scale, additional domains such as Merchant Billing and Embedded Financial Services will be developed and expanded.
