Requirements
• Undergraduate students who are ideally in their junior year, senior year, or a recent graduate. • Ability to work a 30–40 hour work week, including nights and weekends. • A journalism background and an understanding of how newsrooms operate. • The ability to work independently and collaboratively. • Flexibility: ability to adapt to a fast-paced work environment where needs and priorities can change quickly. • Deep knowledge of and passion for hockey. • Application Directions • Attach a resume. • Provide an essay between 500-700 words explaining why you should be considered by The Athletic for this internship. • Attach 2 letters of recommendation. • Provide a portfolio of at least five relevant samples showcasing strong journalism skills. • The rate of pay for this role is $20 USD per hour. • For roles in the U.S., dependent on your role, you may be eligible for variable pay, such as an annual bonus and restricted stock. Responsibilities
• Write NHL breaking news stories. • Pitch, report, write and fact-check hockey stories. • Follow The Athletic’s editorial standards. • Attend regular editorial meetings and collaborate with NHL editors and reporters on ideas and assignments. • Edit and publish hockey stories.
