Requirements

• 5–7 years of corporate communications experience with exposure to sport, investor, transaction-led or consumer brand clients • A strong working understanding of the business of sport, including ownership and investment, media rights, governance and regulation, and commercial models. This can come from client work, an in-house role, study or sustained personal interest, as long as you can show it • A drive to go deep into unfamiliar territory, find the angles others miss, and produce work grounded in a thorough understanding of the subject matter. • Strong written and editorial skills: you can take a complex brief and produce something clear, compelling, and accurate without losing the substance. • The ability to get up to speed on unfamiliar territory quickly and do something useful with it. • Experience building advisory relationships with senior stakeholders, such as owners, chairs, chief executives and investors, and the presence to hold your own in those conversations. • Experience developing media strategies and working with journalists across national, business and sports media outlets. • Experience using AI tools (e.g., Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini) effectively, safely, and critically in a professional setting. • Project management experience: planning and delivering work against agreed goals, timelines, and budgets. • Experience managing junior colleagues and delegating effectively. • Intellectual curiosity to develop subject matter expertise in new areas and share that knowledge with colleagues. • Collaborative instincts and a commitment to contributing to an inclusive culture. • Experience in-agency advising sports owners, investors, leagues or governing bodies, or working in-house at a sports organisation or sports investor. • Corporate or financial communications experience, particularly around transactions, or experience working with private equity, hedge funds or other investors. • Familiarity with sports policy and regulation, or experience working with supporter groups.

Responsibilities

• Shape communications strategy • You'll draw on deep knowledge of channels and audiences to position clients and tell their story – including translating complex transactions, ownership structures, governance and regulation into narratives that resonate with fans and supporter groups, leagues and governing bodies, regulators and politicians, investors, and the sports and financial press. That means working with client team leads to set strategy and priorities, building integrated communications plans, and designing research briefs that ensure advice is grounded in insight rather than assumption. Senior Consultants are expected to interrogate briefs, challenge assumptions, and bring their own perspective rather than simply delivering what's asked. • You'll earn the trust of a range of clients and deliver recommendations that are understood and acted on. You'll produce compelling written content and drive significant communications moments – major announcements, media briefings, speeches, owned-channel campaigns, events. You'll stay across the issues your clients face, from ownership rules and regulatory change to rights deals, league politics and fan sentiment, and use tools including Claude, Gemini, Factiva, and Meltwater to generate insight and support complex deliverables. • Drive and deliver client work • You'll manage the work of junior colleagues, create clear project plans, delegate effectively, and ensure work is delivered to a high standard. Getting things done well and supporting others to do the same is central to both roles. • Use AI to drive better outcomes • You'll use AI tools regularly to improve the quality and efficiency of what you deliver. That means applying Claude, Gemini, and our internal AI Studio to research, insight generation, and analysis at scale. You'll contribute to how we share AI knowledge across teams, experiment with AI-powered workflows, and help ensure all outputs meet our quality standards. • Contribute to the business • You'll apply your understanding of the commercial context in which clients operate, contribute to internal projects, and bring restlessness to spotting growth and development opportunities – whether that's finding new ways to help existing clients, running teams more efficiently, or spotting where ownership changes, investment rounds, rights cycles or governance reform create a need for counsel. You'll also help build Milltown's profile in sports business circles. • Build a collaborative environment • You'll give and receive feedback regularly, actively seek input from colleagues at all levels, and contribute to an inclusive environment where brilliant work happens. • Milltown Partners • Our clients operate at the frontiers of innovation - we advise technology companies driving change, global investors funding the future, the giants of sport and entertainment, and influential individuals on the communications and policy challenges that define their reputations. Our work spans corporate and financial communications, policy and public affairs to engage regulators and policymakers, policy communications and leadership communications. We underpin the full breadth of our capabilities with research-driven insights and campaigns. We're also pioneering AI-enhanced advisory work for both our clients and internal innovation, using technology to unlock insights from data at unprecedented scale and speed. • We support iconic brands as they communicate innovation, change and renewal, and sport is one of the busiest parts of that work. We advise investors building sports portfolios, club and franchise owners in Europe and North America, governing bodies, leagues and executive teams on the decisions behind the game: who owns it, who funds it, who governs it and how it reaches fans. That covers acquisitions and investments, multi-club ownership, governance and regulation, media rights, stadium projects, leadership transitions and crises. We are able to offer our brand and sport clients the full capabilities across the firm including financial communications, policy and public affairs, leadership counsel and research.

Benefits

• We're an independent, employee-owned firm, which means the people who work here share in our collective success. We operate across London, Brussels, San Francisco, New York, and Washington D.C., advising technology companies, global investors, iconic brands and influential individuals on the communications and policy challenges that define their reputations. • Our culture is built on five values: brilliance, restlessness, comradeship, inclusivity and integrity. We expect a lot from each other, but we also invest in each other—through honest feedback, shared learning and genuine care that goes beyond the work itself. • You'll have access to competitive pay with transparent salary bands, twice-yearly bonuses, professional development opportunities guided by our career framework and progression pathways, private healthcare, mental health support, 26 days holiday plus public holidays (outside of our annual Christmas break), and a hybrid working model (three days in the office: Monday, Tuesday and Thursday). • Salary band: Senior Consultant £58,000–£69,000 • We're also serious about building a diverse, equitable and inclusive workplace. We have measurable commitments around representation, inclusion, and supporting underrepresented communities through pro bono work. Creating an environment where everyone can thrive is central to how we operate. • Ready to apply?
